Black opal

Rune dug and dug serching for a special gem  to show nova or at least something akin to all the fresh steel she collected for thier project,   she hit something hard,she rubbed her sore nose and pulled at what she hit pulling it free from its spot in the deep hole only to descover it was a shineing black opal the size of a large egg.
